About Nushu Voices LLC

Nushu Voices is a curator of women’s stories. Like the script Nushu, which Chinese women hid in the folds of their fans or clothing, Nushu Voices tells women’s stories secretly, without names, in order to honor women’s voices. Stories are in written and podcast form.

Nushu Voices History

Nushu Voices LLC was founded by Kirsten Bergstrom in 2017 but the concept to share great stories began years ago. A Terry Tempest Williams book introduced her to Nushu, ‘woman’s writings’, a secret script developed by illiterate Chinese women. Kirsten is inspired by women’s stories that used the healing power of humor to temper pain. She lost her Grandma and wondered about her untold stories. Kirsten wrote and struggled to express her own hard truths, and joined the historic Women’s March with her teenage daughter. She continues to reflect upon the power of women’s voices.

The truth of women’s lives is often edited. We fear truth’s repercussions.  We pause. How will people react? Past the whispered exchanges, stories die.

Nushu Voices tells the good stuff, the stories that make us laugh and cry.
